Trained as a youth by the Mountain Warrior Monks in his homeland Norda, far to the frozen north , Grayhawk is now a warrior renown. He has been journeying the world and working as a mercenary soldier,among other things. His travels have led him into the Kingdom of Keltan where,because of his fighting prowess and leadership skills. He has become a Captain of the Kings Guard. One day while Grayhawk is away in the deep forest. On a Boar hunt with the Kings eldest son and a group of loyal Knights and retainers. The King of Keltan, and two of his sons are murdered by the King's evil brother Danell, who has been turned and is in league with the Dark Lord. The Dark Lord becomes furious when told that his plans for control of an earthly kingdom in order to build an army, have been thwarted. One heir to the throne still lives, eighteen-year-old Crown Prince Killian. He then sends Dark Priests to finish the mission and kill the Prince With them are two black dragons, which have been hatched through Dark Magic. These attempts fail and the young Prince is crowned King. Grayhawk, now appointed War Lord of Keltan and after his induction as an Adept of the Templar Order and knowing full well that the Dark Lord must be thwarted. He then embarks on a perilous mission with a select company of Elves, Dwarves, Warrior monks, and Temple Knights to destroy the remaining unhatched clutch of dragons eggs.

This is the revised and lengthened story of combat in South Vietnam, Republic of, with the soldiers of a small unit known as a Mobile Reaction or "Mike Force". Operating out of the Chu Lai base camp on the coast of Vietnam, between Quang Tri to the north and Cam Rhon Bay to the south. Home of the 23rd Infantry Division (Americal) the 75th Inf.(Rangers) and other combat support units. Their missions took place in the northern provinces, dubbed by the Army as the 1st Combat Tactical Zone (1CTZ). From Rosemary's Point at Chu Lai, to Da Nang, to the Tuy Lon River and the White Mountains, across the Hai Van Pass to Phu Bai, Quang Tri City and on to the DMZ 

They were both a recon and a striker unit, sometimes just snooping, looking for intell. Sometimes attacking and sometimes being attacked. Often deployed to reinforce a small camp or firebase. Often workng as convoy security. Mostly, it was just HOT! Life for them was either base camp boring, or "boonie rat" intense, in full "battle rattle" sweat soaked and sneakin in the bush. Living on salt pills,nasty tasting water and even worse tasting rations.

Often assigned missions to locate or capture specific targets. All of their missions were both classified and clandestine. Even their existence was denied. As much as possible their movements were hidden or camouflaged within larger unit operations and movements.

Their operations were conducted with out back-up, and support was not readily available. They were required to move and survive on their bush skills, to adapt, over come, improvise, and if that failed, E&E (escape and evade) back to a pick-up or rendezvous point for extraction.

This story is about serving in Vietnam as professional soldiers in "No Such Unit Exists" status. Part of the "other" Army, the one not circumscribed by line unit regimentation, order of battle movement, or rules of engagement, in - South Vietnam, Republic of "A HARD PLACE." .
